UK Space Conference 2023
Bray Leino Events
Delivering a seamless, cost-neutral initiative at this scale required careful planning and stakeholder engagement. Planning and organising committees with cross-sector representation worked tirelessly to manage 100 exhibitors, 20 sponsors, and nearly 200 speakers in 75 sessions. The conference’s move to Belfast also presented a unique challenge - balancing the city’s appeal and strategic importance with the travel demands of a global audience.
From limiting single-use plastics and embracing plant-based menu options to collaborating with local suppliers and repurposing event materials post event, hundreds of decisions were made that each moved the needle in a positive direction. Sponsors, exhibitors, and delegates were invited to be part of this journey, helping to reduce the overall environmental footprint.
Sustainability was fundamental to the conference agenda – with serious debate around how the space sector can lead the way in responsible resource management. As well as a six-figure local economic impact, the event also left a legacy in the city, with hundreds of schoolchildren given the opportunity to meet astronauts and be inspired by the possibility of a career in STEM.
And with TRACE data revealing in detail for the first time how sustainability measures contribute to emissions reduction – and where additional savings could be found - UK Space Conference 2023 served as a vital benchmark for future events.
