15Hatfields

15Hatfields, owned by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), has been at the forefront of sustainability since its inception in 2008.

Operating from a Grade II listed building, the venue integrates sustainability into every aspect of its operations and has been certified carbon neutral, with the ultimate goal of becoming carbon negative. This ambitious goal has been supported by numerous accolades, including the first venue to achieve Greengage’s ECOsmart Platinum Award and its 2024 Positive Impact title, alongside several industry recognitions for its leadership in sustainable practices.

The venue’s efforts extend beyond internal operational changes. It has led industry-wide initiatives, such as launching an online Sustainability Hub to share best practice and guide other venues. Regular media commentary and industry speaking roles by key staff, including General Manager Warren Campbell and Deputy Manager Joe Harris, further solidify 15Hatfields’ commitment to inspiring change.

Internally, 15Hatfields fosters a sustainability culture with every team member trained in environmental best practices. The venue tracks its carbon footprint with full transparency, and is the first to report on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and is actively collaborating with suppliers to reduce Scope 3 by 50%.

Furthermore, its partnerships with SmartCarbon and Greengage have led to the development of an enhanced carbon calculator that provides event planners with actionable data on reducing their event’s environmental impact.

Waste management and food sustainability are also key areas of focus. 15Hatfields has been zero to landfill since opening, and all waste streams are managed with a circular approach. In collaboration with its caterers, the venue offers sustainable food options, including 80% plant-based menus, while pioneering palm oil-free events.

Through innovative strategies and a commitment to continuous improvement, 15Hatfields is setting new standards for sustainability in the events industry, encouraging others to follow suit for a greener future.
