Edinburgh International Conference Centre

A 62.8% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2013 would be notable on its own; achieving it while doubling event volume is what makes Edinburgh International Conference Centre such a standout in this field. For three decades, EICC has been ahead of its time, treating sustainability as the operating logic of the venue itself, pairing real-time energy monitoring, LED upgrades and building management systems with equally rigorous progress on water and waste. In 2025, it reported a further 9.7% emissions reduction year-on-year, a 25% fall in water use from its baseline and zero waste to landfill, while its average event footprint sat at around 25% below the current sector benchmark.

What elevates EICC beyond strong venue management is the way it turns infrastructure into client action. Through its Step Change programme, organisers receive Event Impact Reports spanning energy, catering, waste, travel and social outcomes, while its partnership with You.Smart.Thing steers delegates towards lower-carbon journeys – with 78% selecting the most sustainable option. EICC Nourish adds another layer of influence, using carbon-labelled, plant-forward menus and local sourcing to help clients make informed decisions while cutting waste through tighter forecasting and redistribution.

The judges remarked on the extent of that offer, with one calling EICC "a clear leader in this category". The venue's social value credentials are equally persuasive: a neurodiversity checklist co-created with Welcome Brain and ABPCO, a growing Impact Network linking conferences with charities and schools, and more than £150,000 committed to Scottish peatland restoration. Taken together, EICC has engineered a venue model that is operationally credible, socially aware and unusually effective at helping events leave a positive mark beyond the building.
