Set in 93 acres of Sussex countryside and operating within Exclusive Collection's B Corp framework, South Lodge has built a model in which environmental performance, guest wellbeing and commercial appeal support and reinforce one another. But what impressed judges the most about the hotel was not one flagship initiative, but the way responsible thinking runs throughout the entire venue experience. South Lodge hosted 220 events in the past year, achieved 40% repeat business and a 100% Net Promoter Score, all while maintaining a reputation for service that clients compared with top-tier London and New York hotels. 

Its strongest differentiator is the marriage of infrastructure and experience. For instance, the Reeds lodges are the very latest in sustainable design, combining biophilic architecture, rainwater harvesting and water-source heat pumps with a high-end delegate stay that feels restorative rather than restrictive. Food and beverage is equally considered: Botanica, the venue's dairy-free, zero-waste restaurant, holds the Sustainable Restaurant Association's highest three-star Food Made Good accreditation, while event menus are carbon-labelled through consultancy Klimato to help planners make informed choices. One judge called it "what best-in-class venue leadership looks like today", praising a whole-journey approach spanning energy, food, customer experience and the wider estate.

And it’s that wider estate that’s central to South Lodge's impact story. Over the past year, the team planted more than 1,200 trees, expanded habitats and advanced a 5.2-hectare vineyard partnership designed to use every part of the crop, including byproducts, for skincare. Food surplus redistribution through the Olio app saved 992kg of food waste and 3,910kg of CO2 at South Lodge alone, while 70.5% of employees live locally and all are paid above the Real Living Wage. The result is a venue that has redefined how luxury events can be uncompromising on sustainability and guest experience, and deeply connected to nature and the surroundings.
