Visit Belfast

As the Destination Marketing & Management Organisation (DMMO) for Belfast, Visit Belfast is pivotal in advancing the city’s goal of transitioning to an inclusive, zero emissions economy. Our core mission is to attract visitors to Belfast and NI, generating economic benefits and fostering inclusive growth to create jobs and promote prosperity. This vision is woven into our three-year Business Plan, “New Horizons for Belfast City Region,” which adopts a triple bottom line approach, focusing on environmental, social, and economic KPIs.

Visit Belfast is 9th out of 100 destinations on the Global Destinations Sustainability index, the highest ranking UK or Ireland destination.

The recent hosting of the UK & Ireland chapter of ICCA exemplifies our collaborative efforts with event organisers to address sustainability aspirations. Belfast was the first host destination to measure the carbon impact of the meeting, and has set the standard moving forward. Whilst hosting the chapter meeting in Belfast contributed to growing inclusive membership, there was a commensurate associated carbon footprint. To mitigate this impact, the organising team focused on strategies to reduce carbon emissions, while measuring the actual footprint. The event also prioritized industry talent development through engaging discussions in a supportive environment.

In support of local communities, nearly £1,000 was donated to Changing The Menu. For Good, a social impact initiative aimed at assisting the most vulnerable in our society. Additionally, funding was provided for a wildflower meadow in the Belfast hills, contributing to wildlife protection and habitat preservation for future generations.

Building on the insights gained, Visit Belfast have partnered with EY’s carbon impact consultancy team to estimate and report the city wide footprint of tourism. Due in summer 2025, this groundbreaking report will provide tangible strategies for our industry to reduce emissions while maximising the positive impact of tourism.
